Can Dogs Have Tea?
Tea is a popular beverage enjoyed by many around the world, but can our beloved four-legged friends have any? The answer is both yes, and no.
Tea Containing Caffeine
It is not safe for a dog to consume any tea containing caffeine, since it is a stimulant that can cause adverse health effects. Some of the side-effects of caffeine for a dog can include:
- Nervousness and restlessness
- Learning and concentration impairment
- Muscle twitching
If you think your dog has ingested any tea containing caffeine, it is best to contact your veterinarian immediately.
In contrast with tea containing caffeine, caffeine-free tea is generally considered safe for a dog to consume. Of course, if consumed in large amounts, the various herbs and spices used to make tea can be harmful to a dog.
Assuming the tea is made with just water, it can be safe for a dog to consume, however it is still important to check with your vet beforehand.
