- Water Process – This process involves soaking the tea leaves in hot water to pull out both water- and oil-soluble substances. The water, now containing both caffeine and other naturally occurring tea compounds, is then passed through activated charcoal to absorb the caffeine. The remaining flavored water is then reintroduced to the tea leaves to restore the original flavor and aroma.
