Tea the English Way
You cannot talk about English culture without talking about Tea. It has been a part of the culture for centuries and has its own distinct way. Here’s how the English make tea:
Gather the Materials
-A tea kettle and stove top
-Tea infused water (boiled from the kettle)
-Tea Cups
-Tea bags of your choice (or loose leafs)
-Sugar, milk and lemon if desired
Making the Tea
-Boil the water in the kettle, let the water cool a bit while you proceed with the next steps.
-Place the tea bags in the cup, if using loose tea, add 1 teaspoon per cup plus 1 extra teaspoon for the pot
-Add the infused water to the cups (not boiling water, as you don’t want to burn the leaves)
-Let it steep for 2-3 minutes and then remove the tea bags (or strain the tea, if using loose leaves).
-You can add sugar, milk and/or lemon to the cup for extra flavor
Enjoy the Tea
Now it’s time to sit down, relax and enjoy the English tea. Tea is not just for sipping, english culture often deems it appropriate for socializing with friends, with a petit four or a scone on the side. However you make it and no matter who you are with, it is sure to brighten up your day.
