How to Decaffeinate Tea

Tea is the second most popular drink in the world after water and is becoming more and more popular due to its many health benefits. However, it does contain caffeine, and for some people, it is beneficial to reduce or eliminate the caffeine from their diet. Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to decaffeinate tea.

Using Hot Water & Cool Water

The most popular way to decaffeinate tea is by using hot water and cool water. Start by boiling some water, then add your tea to the hot water and steep for the recommended time. Then, dump the hot liquid and steep your tea in cool water for the same amount of time. This will remove some of the caffeine, although it won’t be totally caffeine-free.

Pressure Pot Method

Another way to decaffeinate tea is to use a pressure pot. This works in much the same way as the hot/cool water method, but it is more precise and efficient. First, add the tea to the pressure pot and fill it with boiling water. Next, close the lid and let the tea steep for the recommended time. Then, release the pressure and pour off the tea. This method removes up to 80% of the caffeine from the tea.
