How to make Authentic Indian Masala Chai

Indian masala chai is a delightful and flavorsome beverage served in many cafes, restaurants and homes all over India. With a blend of warm spices, this age-old traditional drink is a great way to get your daily dose of flavor and antioxidants. Here’s how you can make your very own authentic masala chai at home.

Ingredients:

    • 1 cup water

    • 1 cup milk

    • 2-3 teaspoons of black tea leaves

    • 1 teaspoon sugar

    • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger

    • Cinnamon stick

    • 2-3 cloves

    • 2-3 green cardamom pods

Instructions:

    1. Bring the water and milk to a boil over medium-high heat in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.

    1. Add the black tea leaves, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom pods.

    1. Stir, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently to avoid burning.

    1. Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the tea into cups. Discard all the solids.

    1. Serve the chai hot.

Tips:

    • Make it your own: Add some extra flavor and sweetness by adding a spoon of honey or rose syrup.

    • Experiment with spices: Play around with the balance of spices to find the flavor you love most.

    • Strength: To make a stronger cup of masala chai, let it simmer for a few minutes longer before straining.

Enjoy your homemade Indian masala chai!
