Making Sun Tea Inside
Sun tea is a light and refreshing beverage; it’s made by allowing tea to steep with the heat of the sun. Although traditionally made outside, there is a way to make sun tea indoors.
What You Need:
- A clear glass container
- A teaspoon or two of tea
- A light source (a window sill or countertop)
- A teapot or other vessel for straining tea leaves
Instructions
- Put tea into container. Place 1-2 teaspoons of tea (or 1-2 tea bags) into a clear glass container. If a tea bag is used, do not remove the tag or string that attaches to the outside of the bag.
- Fill container half-way with water. Fill the container with cold water, up to about the half-way mark.
- Place container in the light to steep. Place the container on a sunny countertop or windowsill to allow the tea leaves to steep. Keep an eye on the tea, as it will steep quickly and may be ready in as little as 30 minutes.
- Strain tea into a teapot or other vessel. Once the tea is steeped to your desired strength, you can strain the tea leaves with a strainer or by pouring the tea through a small sieve into a teapot.
- Enjoy your sun tea! Sun tea can be served over ice or at room temperature, with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint.
Making sun tea indoors is a great way to enjoy refreshing iced tea without the hassle of boiling water or waiting for the sun to work its magic. Enjoy!
