How to Use Tea Tree Oil for Piercing Bumps
Piercing bumps, also known as Granulomas and keloids, are common after getting a body piercing. Tea tree oil provides a skin calming and healing effect, reducing the bump and potentially minimizing scarring. Here’s how to use tea tree oil to help with piercing bumps:
Step 1: Clean the Pierced Area
Gently clean the area around the bump with an alcohol-free cleanser, using a cotton ball or soft cloth. This will help remove dirt and bacteria, preparing the area for application of the tea tree oil.
Step 2: Dilute the Oil
Mix 1 part tea tree oil with 10 parts water, stirring the mixture gently.
Step 3: Apply the Oil
Dip a piece of clean cotton wool into the mixture, and gently dab the mixture onto the bump. Avoid rubbing the mixture into the skin as this can worsen the bump.
Step 4: Re-clean and Reapply
Repeat the process once everyday, gently cleaning the area and re-applying the tea tree oil mixture.
Additional Tips:
- Avoid applying too much oil at once. Using more than a few drops can cause the oil to be quite strong and have an adverse effect, so it’s best to apply a thin layer.
- Be gentle. Avoid rubbing or scratching the area as this can irritate or even traumatize the area.
- Be consistent. Follow the same cleaning process and apply the oil daily for best results.
Tea Tree Oil is a natural, safe and effective way to help reduce or eliminate piercing bumps. By following the steps outlined above, you can help reduce the appearance of bumps and keep skin looking healthy and clear.
