What is a TEAS Test?
The TEAS Test also known as Test of Essential Academic Skills, is an assessment exam to measure entry-level skills and abilities of students entering a health science program. This scholastic assessment is created by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) and is designed to help schools evaluate their applicants and ensure that students are well-prepared for their nursing, medical, dental, or allied health program.
What does the TEAS Test Measure?
The TEAS test evaluates a student’s knowledge in four major academic areas:
- Reading – The reading section evaluates a student’s understanding of vocabulary and comprehension of source materials.
- Mathematics – The mathematics section assesses a student’s ability to recall basic math principles and solve various math problems.
- Science – The science section gauges a student’s understanding and comprehension of science including anatomy and physiology, life and physical sciences and scientific reasoning.
- English and Language Usage – The English and Language Usage section evaluates how a student comprehends and interprets English in relation to grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
The duration of the TEAS Test is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes and the scores will determine how ready a student is for college-level studies. Depending on the school’s policy, students may be required to pass this test to accept them in the nursing or allied health program of their selected school.
